It’s always a bit weird when a designer’s final collection for any brand goes on sale. And it’s equally strange when the ad campaign is unveiled for that collection, which is the case for Balenciaga this season.
While Balenciaga is poised for a new era under Demna Gvasalia, the fact is that the product (and the vision) it will be selling for the next few months is 100% Alexander Wang.
Which is why it’s good that his final collection was arguably his strongest at the label. So what has he come up with for his swansong campaign?

It features his good buddy Zoë Kravitz (who’s cropping up in a few campaigns this season) alongside Anna Ewers. They were photographed by Steven Klein (is there a high-end brand campaign that man hasn’t shot?) and the images continue the celebrity duo theme without the slightly cheesy girl-on-girl look we saw last season.
The overall feel this season is softer and works well with the creamy white silks that dominated the collection.
I like it but I know it’ll be the last – from here on, it’s all about Demna Gvasalia.
