I spoke too soon yesterday. No sooner was the ink dry on my ankle boots update (yes, I know it’s the internet and there’s no ink, but you know what I mean) than some more pre-fall 16 collections came out with some more great boots.

These ones have a tough edge, even when they come in a smart version with a high chunky heel. But the odd high heel aside, for the most part they’re flat with a strong masculine influence that references boxing boots, hiking boots and work boots too.

I’m hoping we’ll see more like this as I’m still gutted that Yohji Yamamoto only made his asymmetrically laced boots for AW15 in men’s sizes (see below). OK, the fact that they cost £1,000-plus was also a slight barrier to their purchase but, again, you know what I mean.
